    Installation and servers

    rgalus

We just purchased severa SolarWinds products.  Each product has individual server requirements .  Does anyone have recommendations for which products can or should be installed on the same server and which ones should not be installed on the same server?

In regards to the SolarWinds Orion Suite, you'd want to install all the applications on the same server with the database on a separate server.  What products and license levels did you purchase?

          Thank you,

NPM, NTA, SAM, UDT, IPAM WPM, and Storage Manager would be installed on one server.  WHD would be on another which could have FSM on it as well.  Patch Manager you'd want separate, and both LEM and Virtualiation Manager would be installed as Virtual appliances.  That would be 5 servers.  You'd need to provision servers (physical or virtual) for all but LEM and WHD.  Now, for the databases, you can have the Orion Suite, WHD and Patch Manager could use a separate SQL server to host their database.  STM, VMAN, and FSM all use internal databases.  This would be a total of about 6 servers you'd need for this deployment.

              Thank you,

Here is what we normally recommend rolling out.

For SolarWinds Orion Suite Application Server:

                4 X Quad Core 3.0 GHz Processor

                12 GB RAM

40 GB HDD Space for OS

80 GB HDD Space for Applications

100 GB Space for Storage for the STM installation

Drives need to be in either a RAID 1 or 10 configuration

For SolarWinds Orion Suite SQL Server:

                4 X Quad Core 3.0 GHz Processor

                12 GB RAM

40 GB HDD Space for OS

500 GB HDD Space for Data and Log drives

Drives need to be in either a RAID 1 or 10 configuration

For NTA Flow Storage Database Server:

                4 X Quad Core 3.0 GHz Processor

                16 GB RAM

                Up to 1 TB Storage

I would put NTA on a different box, it's actually suggested in the documentation for version 4 as it will be a hog.  Currently we run NPM,NCM,SAM on one machine with an additional poller and additional webserver.
