    Pulling syslog records from command-line?

First, I hope this is the correct location for this question....

Currently I can search the syslog records using syslog viewer.  It is very customizable and I love the functionality.  What I need to do now is to be able to essentially do the same using CLI.  The most import things I need are:

      • Search the syslog records based on IP address given the specified time frame (as you can customize in syslog viewer).
      • Have the results be saved to a file.  Text would be okay, but if this can go to an excel spreadsheet or PDF format as is available in the tool that would be even better.

Does anyone know how to do this or how to point me in the right direction?

      Thanks much in advance.....
