ICMP-Only node failes but online

Hello Thwack and thank you in advance for anyone that takes the time to look at this and respond. I have two nodes that are currently being monitored by ICMP only and NPM is reporting them as down; I have confirmed the boxes are up by pinging them from multiple sites as well as the NPM box itself, all come back fine with fast responses. I tried using the search to see if anyone else had an issue like this but couldn't find much; has anyone else seen this or know of a reason NPM would say these are down even though manually from the box the hosts ping?

Is the ping-reply address the same as the ping-query address? what version of NPM?
in 10.3.1 and earlier I had to chenge this setting in file %ProgramFiles(x86)%\SolarWinds\Orion\SolarWinds.Orion.Discovery.Job.dll.config

And change the line
<add key="SkipNodesWhenIcmpReturnedFromAnotherAddress" value="1"/>
to
<add key="SkipNodesWhenIcmpReturnedFromAnotherAddress" value="0".>
[not tested to see if this is needed for 10.5 or later, or if this now extends into the 10.6 monitoring code as well as the discovery code]

looking further into it, apparently its a configuration issue on the boxes but thanks for the quick response

I'm having the exact same issue on cisco cms virtual IPs. What configuration change did you make on these end nodes?

The problem turned out to be that some Cisco device interfaces will not respond to an ICMP packet with zero bites in the payload. If you are using one of the later releases of NPM make sure you have at least a couple characters in:
Settings -> Polling Settings -> ICMP Data (make sure this field isn't blank)
This solved my problem I hope this helps with yours
