Google Chrome 27.0.1453.116 EXE (Upgrade) package failed to install using WSUS - 0x80070643 (Fatal error during installation)

Hello,

I published the package Google Chrome 27.0.1453.116 EXE (Upgrade) to all WSUS servers without problems, all the machines get detected who needs the upgrade, but the upgrade failed with Error 0x80070643 (Fatal error during installation) (Code23) on all machines (XP32Bit, Win7 32&64Bit).

I already tried to make a copy of the current package, deployed it again, same Error, so the issue could not be a corrupt package.

Hi Martin,
I had some issues with 3rd Party Updates in the past, some similar to yours, and I found out that the best way to deploy 3rd Party Updates is to: first download them, then upload (publish) them from Software Publishing.
My advice for you is to delete the package from your WSUS server (both of them - original and your copy) and wait for the WSUS servers to replicate. Then from Software Publishing just download content first and then publish. Try to approve the package only to a short subset of computers first and see what happens...

Thanks, I will try your suggestions ... it will take some time, we have plenty WSUS servers, 1 master,1 replica and it will take some time until the package is deleted everywhere. do you have best practices how to delete 3rd Party packages from SolarWinds within WSUS ?

Yes, it takes some time... Especially if you have several servers! But it worked for me in the past more than once... Now for me a best practice is always to download first and publish later.
If you want to do an extra step, you can also delete the package from "Software Publishing" and force a synchronization. I only had this issue once but in that case deleting the published package on WSUS server did the trick. The downsize was to have to wait twice for the WSUS replication...
How many WSUS servers do you have?

we are having 21 downstream servers, 8 of them are direct child servers, 1 master ... so it will take some time until replication is done on all Servers. need to figure out a way to force that and how to delete and synchronize best practices ... I will test your suggestion and reply my results ... thanks

You can select you 8 child servers and select "Synchronize", they will start the synchronization process from the Master. Beware if you have other updates on the master that haven't yet synchronized to the replicas, this might cause a huge amount of traffic on the network.
