I have been success in doing this with Alert Central 1.0.1. I dont think we fixed anything in this area so you will need to provide a more detailed description of what you are trying to do and maybe include some screenshots.
With more information we may be able to determine the issue.

This was resolved by using the literal name field in Alert Central not the variable from NPM.
