I was wondering what is better to use when creating a white List in UDT 3.0, a MAC White list or an IP address white list? We have statically assigned IP address across our network, so by specifying an IP address it is a mute point since the user has to get the IP address from us anyway's.
If MAC address white list is better, then what is an easy way to scan the network to get all existing MAC addresses?
In your case, I would probably use the MAC-based white list, but I am no network administrator, so I will let others answer this one. If you need a list of MAC addresses on your network, there is a tool called MAC Address Discovery in our Engineer's Toolset. It scans a subnet and provides a MAC and host name for each IP address it finds. See MAC Address Discovery Tool
