I would really consider upgrading your version. The current version is 1.85.490.0 and yours is way back... I dont' know if this upgrade will solve your problem but I would try it!

There's no specific reason that I'm aware of for v1.72 having issues with WSUS Inventory because of the version that it is, but I wholeheartedly encourage you to upgrade your installation of Patch Manager.
