NPM and Virtualisation manager - cannot connect to virtual centre

For some time now we have not been able to connect to either of our virtual centre servers for VMWARE monitoring. We have connected to all of the ESXi 5 servers using the root credentials.

Every type of credential we try just will not connect, VC, a dedicated account, domain account that we use to login to VC. This has got to the stage now that we might start to look at alternative products as a lot of time has now been spent on what should be a straight forward setup job.

Has anyone else encountered this and if so did they manage to resolve it.

Virtual Centre is 5.x Standard.

Thanks

Damian

  • Had the same issue and resolved it by making sure that the credentials used to connect the Virtual Center (in Solarwinds Virtualisation Manager) had the appropriate permissions from the top of the vCenter tree.

  • David is right, the likely culprit is VMWare permissions. Usually configuration of VCenter / ESXi hosts is the same procedure and as simple as putting in the credentials for discovery. If it's still having issues, DM me and we can have a SE assist further.
