APC UPS Battery Self-Test Alert Help Needed....

Hi all,

We run a shop with basically two UPS vendors; APC and Leibert.  The APC's only alert via syslog and the Leiberts use only traps.  We receive email alerts, via syslog, telling us that a particular UPS has started a self test.  We get thses only for the APC UPS'.  Here's a copy of an aler thread.

    1. 2/25/2013 10:05 AM :   Feb 25 10:05:31 x.x.x.x UPS: Started a self-test. 0x0137
    2. 2/25/2013 10:05 AM :   Feb 25 10:05:31 x.x.x.x UPS: Started a self-test. 0x0137
    3. 2/25/2013 10:05 AM :   Feb 25 10:05:47 x.x.x.x UPS: Passed a self-test. 0x0105
    4. 2/25/2013 10:05 AM :   Feb 25 10:05:47 x.x.x.x UPS: Passed a self-test. 0x0105

These are four separate emails that come in.  A few questions regarding these:

  • Why don't I receive a "UPS: Failed a self-test" alert?  We have had some UPS' with batteries that need to be replaced.
  • I have looked in my server and cannot find where these particular alerts have been created/configured.

Thanks, in advance.
