Looking for a good temperature Monitor that work well with SolarWinds

We use a Sensatronics Model E4 IT Temperature Monitor.  It works well for us.

Why do you use that particular one? Seems rather expensive. What can it do that others can't? Were you able to tie the sensor to SolarWinds?

I’m not exactly sure why we purchased it since that is the one they were using when I started here. I can tell you that it supports the 4 probes that we use and that it integrated with our original monitoring tools which were not SolarWinds. It integrates perfectly into Orion using the Universal Device Poller.

We currently use an Enviromux SEMS 16:

Server Environment Monitoring System Remote Network Sensor Alarm

It works fine with Universal Pollers pulling the data using SNMP. We did this and then averaged our total monitors using Data Transformation Pollers.

However, if I had to choose a new vendor, I would probably go with these guys:

Their software includes Heat Mapping of your data center, provided you go with enough data points.

How do you connect the probes to the box - is that how it works? The photo from the link is the monitor, correct? And then you have probes hanging off that? How many temp sensors can each box handle? Also, did you have to assign pollers to the device or were they picked up automatically?

Pat…the probes connect to the box. The E4 allows for 4 probes. I did have to assign pollers to the device using the UDP. I have two cold aisles and two hot aisles configured.

Randy - how long can the cables be that the probes use. Our Data Center is roughly 50' x 40'. Could I cover that with the one box and 4 probes or do you think I would need more boxes?
