I want to have a link to a spreadsheet on a node page.
I have added the user defined link box and added a user link but it just will not work.
I have tried
url #1
file:///U:\Group\IP Telephony\Data.xlsx
and
url #2
U:\U:\Group\IP Telephony\Data.xlsx
but they do not work with either firefox or IE.
If I paste them directly into both firefox & IE then the file opens so I know its not a typo.
I raised a TAC case and they said the control only supports http type web links. It doesn't support direct file links.
I seem to remember I used to be able to do it on an older version.
Has anyone else got this working?
This is considered a security risk. The file link would actually point to a file on your workstation, not the server. Most browsers won't allow this anymore which is why you are probably getting different behavior now. If you want to make this work you will need to modify your browser's security settings.
The correct syntax will vary by browser but will look something like this, "file:///C:/TEST/text.txt"
