Servers "Not Yet Reporting" to WSUS

I have  8 servers "not yet reporting" to the wsus.  Group Policy set to point to WSUS server.

Steps I have followed trying to resolve tis issue:

Tested connectivity using:  server/selfupdate/wuident.cab

checked logs -Reportingevents.log and windowsupdate.log----AutomaticUpdates Failure Software Synchronization Unable to Connect: Windows is unable to connect to the automatic updates service and therefore cannot download and install updates according to the set schedule. Windows will continue to try to establish a connection. AND  WARNING: PTError: 0x8024400e

I have restarted server,checked security settings on IE,deleted the DATASTORE.Installed a new Windows Update Client, REGsvr32.dll-MSXML3.dll/softpub.dll/initpki.dll/mssip32.dll.

I have ran gpudate /force  the wuauclt /resetauthorixation /detectnow       and have also deleted the susclientID

The Group Policy seems to be working because the are automaically assigned to a group in WSUS, the registry settings are good

STill not reporting??

Any help with this is much appreciated, thanks

    There's a known issue, blogged on the WSUS Blog almost a year ago, that's known to result in 0x8024400E errors. You've not provided enough log details to definitively confirm it as a probably cause, but it's the best place to start based on the information provided.

    If this blog post does not address your issue, post back with addiitonal log detail and we can go from there. There are other possible causes for this error code, including some causes that are server-side.

    I had seen this article before, however are servers do not have office loaded, and this issue is refering to the office 2003

    On one server, in the event viewer:  EventID:16  Unable to Connect: Windows is unable to connect to the automatic updates service and therefore cannot download and install updates according to the set schedule.  Windows will continue to try to estabish a connection.

    A number of replies coming to this post, but the first of significance is that you need to upgrade your WSUS Server to Service Pack 1. This "required version" note tells me that the WSUS Server is still running the original release version of WSUS v3. (The good news is that this WUA is actually upgraded to the latest version -- most likely a result of browsing directly to Microsoft Update.)

    On one server, in the event viewer:  EventID:16  Unable to Connect: Windows is unable to connect to the automatic updates service and therefore cannot download and install updates according to the set schedule.  Windows will continue to try to estabish a connection.

    The second note of interest... this message almost always is caused because the Automatic Updates service is DISABLED, or the service is configured to use an invalid/incorrect LogOn Account or Password. Please verify that the service is set to start Automatic, that the service is Started, and that it is running in the context of the SYSTEM account.

    To clarify this point... while the servers may not have Office 2003 specifically loaded, the article does not state that is the criteria. What the article states is:

    "Computers that have Office 2003 or components of Office 2003 installed ..."

    The concept of "components of..." carries a very broad connotation in this matter. Simply stated, if the server has a \Program Files\Microsoft Office folder, then it's probably impacted. If there's no Microsoft Office folder at all, I'll be happy to keep looking -- but these errors are textbook for this particular issue. I would suggest performing the documented remediation steps, on principle, even if you believe there are no Office components installed at all.

    1. Find the Office 2003 Service Pack 1 update in the updates list, UpdateID: D359F493-0AAD-43FA-AF5C-6763326CD98F. This may involve changing the Status and Approval filters. Set Status to Any and Approval to Declined; if you still do not see the update, set Approval to Any Except Declined.

      2.       Perform the following steps:

    1. Ensure the update is already declined.
      1. If the update is not already declined, right-click on the update and then click Decline in the shortcuts menu.
      2. Cause the update not to be declined.
    2. Right-click the update and then click Approve in the shortcuts menu.
    3. In the Approve Updates dialog that opens, just click OK without making any changes to the approval settings.
      1. Decline the update.
        1. Right-click the update and then click Approve in the shortcuts menu.
        2. In the Approve Updates dialog that opens, just click OK. Dismiss the Approval Progress dialog that appears.

    The computers that were failing detection will now successfully complete detection against the server and receive any applicable updates.
