I have seen this. One common cause for this error is not specifically pointing the task to the preferred domain controller. On vpn- or WAN-separated networks, this is particularly problematic. To set the preferred DC for the container, build (or you might be able to edit) your inventory tasks for the AD container. When you get to the computer selection screen in the Task Options Wizard, click 'Select computers using rules'.
Next, click on the folder icon on the right of the container name:
Click the icon and enter in the appropriate DC information in the optional Preferred DC field:
Run the task and see if this addresses the issue.
I am having the same problem. Some OUs in the same domain work fine some do not without setting the Preferred DC setting.
Even after setting the Preferred DC I am still getting the same error.
