Issues with latest WSUS update (wsus-kb2720211)

I just wanted to share a few things I've seen today regarding the impact of wsus-kb2720211 to Patch Manager environments.

The first one is the following error that will occur during third party catalog synchronization.

Source: EminentWare.UI.Publisher

Exception occurred at 11-06-2012 10:55:24: Access is denied

DataPortal_Fetch method call failed

DataPortal.Fetch failed

The second issue I've observed is the following error when attempting to publish a 3rd party package.

Failed to publish (package name). Publishing operation failed because the console and remote server version do not match

The resolution to this was to manually apply the latest Update for Windows Server Update services 3.0 SP2 (2720211) to the Patch Manager server, which can be found in the following link.

Have a little update on this issue that we have seen relating to a failed install of KB2720211:
Error occurring when publishing update to your WSUS server:
Package: [Package name]
Status: Failure
Message: Failed to publish [Package name]. CreateDirectory failed
It looks like the failed install of the hotfix is affecting the permissions and share levels for the UpdateServicesPackage folder under the WSUS directory causing this issue. Try reinstalling the hot fix manually to clear the issue out.

We are having the issue about console and remote server version after KB2720211 was installed on WSUS server and WSUS server rebooted. Are you saying it must only be installed manually to resolve this issue? .

You must install the WSUS update on both your WSUS and Patch Manager servers. Each server will need to be restarted. This will resolve the issue.

The server with Patch Manager installed does not have WSUS installed on it, only the console. As this update is for Servers running WSUS services, it doesn't apply. WSUS Console shows server with Patch Manager as not needed for KB2720211.
