Wrong readings on interfaces / High percent utilization.

Hi Thwack forum.

We got some interface which reports high percent utilization on some of our interfaces. for example. The 64 Bit counter is enabled. But what can be done to avoid these mis readings ?

We are running with Orion Core 2011.2.1, APM 4.2.0 SP1, NCM 7.0.1, NPM 10.2.1.

Thanks in advance.

  • What is the interface bandwidth and the interface configured speed?
If the interface bandwidth changes dynamically then Orion will have a hard time figuring out what the scale should be. To counteract this, edit the interface and set a static speed. If the interface is capable of gigabit speed then set the speed to 1000.

The interface is a 1Gb interface, and the interface is set to dynamic bandwidth i will try to set i to static and see if that changes everything.

  • Interface bandwidth is tracked during the rediscovery interval of the node.  If the interface bandwidth reported at the time is say 100Meg and then it dynamically changes your graphs will reflect the 100 meg until the device is "rediscovered" and that bandwidth statement updates.

You may want to either hard code the device or hard code SolarWinds but if the bandwidth statement keeps changing then the graphs won't be accurately reflected.
