Re: Memory monitoring on an ASR 1001 doesn't tally
DaveAz Feb 7, 2012 1:26 PM (in response to MrGinger)Ours should be reading about 25% usage, but SolarWinds is reporting 95%

Re: Memory monitoring on an ASR 1001 doesn't tally
DaveAz Feb 14, 2012 2:41 PM (in response to DaveAz)Appears SolarWinds is reading total memory as less than is what is really there. Any was to correct this?

tomas.pospisil Feb 23, 2012 10:22 AM (in response to MrGinger)Hello Mr Ginger,
Can you open Support case and post number here. Please include SNMP walk provided by our utility placed in %ProgramFiles%\Solarwinds\Orion\SNMPWalk.exe (shipped from NPM 10.2)
Thank you.

Re: Memory monitoring on an ASR 1001 doesn't tally
cfry Jan 21, 2013 2:39 PM (in response to MrGinger)I am also having this issue with one of the 2 ASR 1001s we have installed. Also, Solarwinds NPM 10.4 sees them as Wireless Controllers?!

Re: Memory monitoring on an ASR 1001 doesn't tally
wpbrown Jun 7, 2013 12:27 PM (in response to cfry)I am also seeing a similar issue. Orion NPM 10.4 is reporting my ASR 1002-X as a Wireless Controller as well with 4 GB of memory at 77% utilization.
Edit: I just heard from Cisco TAC that the 1002-X does indeed have 4 GB of physical memory, but of that only 1 GB is allocated to IOSd. The rest is for Linux/image, etc.

Re: Memory monitoring on an ASR 1001 doesn't tally
timchampion Jun 8, 2013 3:42 PM (in response to MrGinger)All, if you check the memory utilisation via CLI you'll likely see the same high memory utilisation. The ASR hardware plaftorm is a indeed a weird and wonderful beast with a number of different memory areas. Some of these are allocated on initialization and, irrespective of load, will remain at a constant 60-70% util.
I would suggest this is a more a question for Cisco than Solarwinds. I'll see if I can dig out some TAC notes on the subject.
HTH

Re: Memory monitoring on an ASR 1001 doesn't tally
adambudwill Jun 8, 2013 8:23 PM (in response to MrGinger)I had a previous SolarWinds case in for this but I'm afraid I no longer have access to it's case number anymore... There is a problem/perspective issue with the new ASR platform and how it reports memory since it is running on Linux. When it reads memory there are two ways to look at it -- the whole platform memory or the IOS daemon memory (if I recall right). To monitor the memory I wanted (what was actually available in the IOS [routing table, etc]) , SolarWinds provided me a special application that would look up a node's MIB table and allowed me to select which OID I wanted to poll for memory usage. This allowed me to select the other OID and it would report the other memory perspective giving me what I felt was the more appropriate/significant memory usage... A quick note on this app, the node's OID custom setting would occasionally get reset back, I believe when I updated my install or some other case when it re-read the polling points for the node.
If you ask Cisco, this is by design... I don't know if SolarWinds was going to change how they handled ASR memory reporting but I assume it's being handled 'by default' the way all other platforms are. Which in this case, isn't quite accurate for what you probably want.

Re: Memory monitoring on an ASR 1001 doesn't tally
reubenjack Aug 8, 2014 4:33 AM (in response to MrGinger)Finally was able to fix the issue of Memory Utilization not showing correctly for ASR 1001 devices using Poller Checker Tool.
C: > Program Files (x86) > Solarwinds > Orion > PollerCheckerTool.exe
Select the Node and Poller as Memory and Click on Detect Poller.
From the list of Pollers that popped, look for the ones that are marked green. Right Click on them and select Poll now, You will get a pop up window with the result. See if values are matching with CLI Values of that device. If so click on that Poller and select Add/Replace tab.
Thats it. The values will now be reflecting in web console.
Extra Info:
Sometime after selecting the new Poller, the old one will also be checked stopping the correct data and will also not allow to be unchecked. You need to remove them manually using DB manager
SELECT TOP 1000 * FROM [dbo].[Pollers]
where netobjectid ='xx'
Note that xx is the node id number of your device
and uncheck the old Poller

Re: Memory monitoring on an ASR 1001 doesn't tally
gli@comwave.net Jan 23, 2015 9:48 AM (in response to JessicaWalsh)In Poller Checker Tool you can find it when you select the node.
@reubenjack great trick!

Re: Memory monitoring on an ASR 1001 doesn't tally
Network_Guru Mar 19, 2015 4:17 PM (in response to MrGinger)Great info here - I just happened to run into this shortcut on my Orion server today and was not aware of what it was for.
I have some Cisco ASR 9000s with 8Gb of memory, but Orion only report 2Gb and is showing 99% utilization.
I ran the poller checker, but sadly there are no other memory pollers that work for these devices.
It appears I will be looking for a UnDP MIB that can poll the memory correctly.

Re: Memory monitoring on an ASR 1001 doesn't tally
rob.hock Mar 19, 2015 4:22 PM (in response to Network_Guru)If you are running a recent version of NPM, you can visit Settings->Manage Pollers and create a new poller for CPU / Memory. Instead of using UnDP, the data will appear to be native. The poller can then be bulk applied to existing devices and will be automatically detected for newly discovered devices with matching sysoid.

Malik Haider Oct 3, 2015 3:17 AM (in response to MrGinger)We are working on this here .
Cisco ASR Showing 95% 98% Memory Used.
