new guy need help regarding the use of solar winds

hi guyz

i have installed the solar wind but the interface is really confusing so i cant understand what to do. my basic requirement is to monitor the traffic on my web server.i wanted to know which IP address is currently accessing my WEB server and after that where could i find the LOG files regarding the monitoring.

desperately need help guyz :(

Hi Blackvirus

Which modules did you install?

NPM can tell you how much bandwidth consumption you have going on the NIC of the Web Server. You will need to enable SNMP on the server and allow the SW Server IP to poll for SNMP. Without SNMP you might simply see an ICMP echo which will only tell you if the node is up or down.

NTA can report on what connections is happening over the network, you will however need a Netflow enabled device to do this.

yes i can see the bandwidth utilization but i also wanted to know which user is currently accessing the server so is it possible?

You could enable syslog on the server and set the NPM server (assuming that is what you have) as the log reciever and see who is using the server via syslog. See the NPM Administrator Giude for instructions. There are other syslog products we offer as well such as Kiwi Syslog Server.

I would suggest look at UDT module into Orion. This modul can in detail tell you what users are currently logged in specific node.

ok how can i see by using syslog..??? i have installed ntsyslog but its interface is not user friendly
