NPM Network Topology

Currently to update the topology data, this is tied with Network Sonar discovery.  In the next version, which is currently in beta, we are breaking that off from Network Sonar into is's own background polling job to gather L3 and L2 topology data, so it is no longer dependent on Network Sonar, however, that is the way it works today.  

Also we do not currently use CDP/LLDP to gather topology, this is something we are looking to add in a future rev, but today we gather by looking at Bridge MIB and other MIB's.

In NPM 10.2.x, the L2 and L3 topology data polling has been broken off from the Network Sonar discovery.  The polling jobs are described in the NPM release notes here: SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor Release Notes

You can see in the following link that we are still looking at utilizing CPD/LLDP data for topology information.

Orion NPM 10.2 is no longer using discovery engine for collecting topology data. It utilizes new topology pollers instead and polls topology during node rediscovery. Upcoming Orion NPM 10.3 is now able to utilize LLDP/CDP information. You can try signing up to BETA or RC program to give it a try before 10.3 officially reaches GA.
