Additional Polling Engine on different network

My Orion NPM and database server are located in our internal network.  I want to setup an additional polling engine to poll all of routers with public IP addresses.  This additional polling engine will also have NTA installed on it.  Does Solarwinds recommend we only install polling engines on the same subnet as the primary NPM and database server, or can it be installed on a different subnet?

For example NPM and database are located on 10.x.x.x and the poller will be installed on 192.x.x.x?

Please advise.
