What are the requirements to run Storage and Virtual Profiler on VMware?

We are considering moving from a physical server to our VMware.

What are the specs needed to make this run in Vmware environments? Thanks.

  • Hi

I am a little confused by your question, are you asking how do we monitor VMware environments, or are you asking for specs for running the Profiler server on a VM?

The first, check our permissions and security document at

    www.solarwinds.com/.../ProfilerSec.pdf

If the second, what are you monitoring in your environment.

  • Thanks but I got an answer by opening a Support Ticket and here's what was presented to me:

Our 'official' requirements are 2GB RAM and 50GB of hard drive space available but I would suggest a VM w/ a 64 bit OS, at least 2 cores, 8 GB RAM and 100GB HD space (anticipating database growth).  That should give you plenty of horsepower to run the webserver, manage queries to the db, and monitor a couple of resources.

I would still suggest using proxy agents to do any "heavy lifting" like file analysis, virtual center monitoring, etc.
