Unreachable state and availability metrics

When a "parent" device goes down and the "child" device status is set to "Unreachable" what effect does the "unreachable" state have on the "child" device's availability metrics? Do we need to code in a filter to disregard the "unreachable" status? Also what is the numerical value within the database for the "unreachable" status?

I can't answer the question about availability, but I do know that the StatusInfo table in the database lists Unreachable as StatusId 12.
