64 bit counter in 10.1?

I see this option for enabling 64 bit counters. All our servers and SQL installs are 64 bit. I'm too new to SNMP to know what 64 bit counters exist and whether we should enable them. Can anyone point to a good article that explains what they add and any pros/cons to enabling this? I didn't see much in the admin guide.

forgive me if this is wrong, but is it essentially saying 64 bit counters on faster media (like gigabit NICs) are faster but will return the same info needed?

Same info but the counter won't wrap (from biggest number possible back to zero) as quickly.

so I should enable it? No real downside? It will over ride and just query for 64 bit instead of 32 bit?

Do I need to do anything on the NICs?

You'll have to do the research for the device.
I'm don't have any involvement with servers and have no need to enable 64bit counters for anything.

32 bit counters that wrap don't cause me problems.
