I have been in the dark about exactly how the Test button is supposed to work for some time now. It seems very hit and miss. For instance, if I create an alert that is supposed to send an email, when I test the email functionality, it may work or it may not work.
Most recent example: Built an alert with email notification that actually sent the email the first time it was tested - including seeing the test trace in the test trace box. After that, I could not get it to work again. No alert sent, and nothing appears in the trace box. The Windows event logs show no clue.
Ideas? Should I restart the Alerting service? Do I need to Clear and/or Refresh the alert log in the test Fire Alert box?
I would greatly appreciate a detailed explanation of this procedure, since it has vexed me for a long time.
did you reset the alert?
also sometimes it takes up to 2minutes for the alert to actually fire, you need to let the window open for that time. you will see when it fires in the text window
