In the same page where you see the 'online' status, you could check the smis module log by clicking on the module name. Is there an error message?
You could also check the Provider logs, typically in the ecim\ecom\log folder
Thanks for the quick reply HolyGuacamole,
Found a whole lot of the following on the SMI-S log:
20 Jun 2010 18:08:28 - DataHandler_BSSD(2).handleParsedData(): condition prevents calculations: duplicated perf data detected for instance (CLAR+CKXXXXXXXXXXXXXX+Disk+1_0_7) since durationInSecs (0) is <= 0. Duration calculated by (1276934706000 - 1276934706000) / 1000
And on the \ecim\ecom log:

I'm not sure why the profiler ran successfully for three days then suddenly stopped with no other changes in the environment, but I will go through the SMI-S configuration once again...

I think I know what is going on. The SMI-S provider cannot sync up with the array if its only given monitor access. Please remsys the CX in the Provider and addsys using an account with manager (admin) access. No changes should be necessary in Profiler.
The SMI-S provider was already configured with an admin account. I'm removing the array completely and going to try re-adding it.
I just hit the same problem. SMI-S just suddenly stopped talking to the array after two weeks of running for no apparent reason with the exact symptoms above. Has anyone figured out what causes this?
Also, I wasn't able to find any docs on the SMI-S provider that tell how to remove an array and had to reset the entire provider and re-add all arrays to it. If someone has some pointers to docs on the SMI-S provider (other than the release notes and the solarwinds documents) I'd appreciate it.
If you drill down to the console page of the EMC storage system in Profiler, what is the status message if you hover your mouse on the icon next to the display name?
What error messages are seen in the logs in these folders - <install_dir>\symapi\log and <install_dir>\ECIM\ECOM\log?
The instructions for Providers is here:
It does not provide instructions on removing Clariion. Did restarting both the Profiler agent and the EMC provider not work?
Note EMC released a new provider on 9/2 (SMI-S Provider 4.1.2 for SMI-S 1.4). Definitely not saying a new release will fix your issue, but if it continue to be an issue, changing out providers is definitely an option.
For what it's worth, I'm having the EXACT same problem. I followed solarwinds instructions about adding the smi object (and using the Localdir/admin and Password#1 credentials).
I tried to follow the suggestion above (remsys the object, re-add it using a admin account on the array and it would not allow me. Only worked with the localdir/admin account.)
My quit after 4 hours. Not really sure how to get the performance monitors back. This is on a windows 2003 server running against a brand new clarrion CX4. I am using the latest (sep2) smi provider. I can't continue with my demo/evaluation until this is resolved.
Apparantely I cannot edit my post.
I was mistaken. I did originally set it up with an array account that had full access, just as I did this second time. So I really have no idea why this keeps stopping for me.
I'm dropping a note for customers subscribed to this thread - we're working a new free tool for EMC Clariion - and we'd love to get some customer feedback. If you would be interested in learning more, please send me a private message or email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
I just wanted to follow up if anyone found a solution to this. Profiler stops collecting data after somewhere between 6 and 24 hours. Restarting the ECOM service in windows resolved this. Just makes for graphs with lots of gaps.
What is the version of the Flare OS?
