Login Failing on Nortel Switch (ESU 1800)

Hi all,

Firstofall, sorry for coming up with a question on my first posting. I'm quite sure this is just stupidity on my side, but definitely I'm needing some help :)

The device I'm trying to connect/backup is some Nortel Metro Ethernet Switch. I've used the Type Nortel.Switch.Passport and defined the username / password in the AAA username / AAA password fields. I can see in wireshark that KiwiCat succesfully logs in, but it just doesn't notice, it also shows a login in the switch log.

The login banner / prompts look like the following:

There's a whitespace behind Login:, Password: and one before and behind the $ prompt.

I have tried a few things like setting VTY Prompt to 'Password: ' and also to ' $ ' but it all won't work for me :)

Can I have some help from one of you?

Hi wartungsfenster --
The problem you are having is related to your device hostname prompt of '$'.
The Nortel.Switch.Passport device type (and I also checked the Nortel.Switch.Ethernet device type too) does not support '$' as being a valid hostname prompt.
Can you confirm for me please whether '$' is the default 'out-the-box' factory prompt for this device or is this a custom configuration?

The 1800's default promot is a $. There does not appear to be anyway to change it. Is there anything we can do in the NCM to accept it?

Hi cyphao,
Did you mean to say 'NCM' or did you mean 'CatTools' instead? If you are having issues with NCM, please post on the NCM forum as there may be a work around available for you that the NCM team can offer.
Thanks for confirming that the 1800's default prompt is indeed a '$' though.
