Re: [Solved] Monitoring Multiple units in a Cisco 3750 stack of switches?
ecornwell Nov 18, 2009 8:36 AM (in response to MFA)You should be able to monitor the Stack Ports in Orion and alert if they go down. That's what we're planning on doing.

MFA Nov 19, 2009 3:06 AM (in response to Andy McBride)Thanks for the replys.
How do you monitor the stackports? If i make a "list resources" on my stacks it looks like the attached picture. I can't see the stackports.

Re: [Solved] Monitoring Multiple units in a Cisco 3750 stack of switches?
ds2acrvet Mar 5, 2010 8:38 AM (in response to MFA)I am having the opposite problem. I could monitor my stackports in version 12.2.25, but I upgrade to 12.2.52 and now the stackports are no longer showing.

Re: [Solved] Monitoring Multiple units in a Cisco 3750 stack of switches?
abeeson Jul 19, 2013 12:29 AM (in response to ds2acrvet)We have this 12.2.25.SEB2 running on a lot of ours, this doesnt work, then we have 12.2.25.SEE3 and that does have it.
Any version i have here later than 12.2.25 seems to have it as well, including 12.2.52.SE, if you dont have it working on 12.2.52 i'd be interested which train it is....

Hi all,
I took a slightly different approach to this: I created a custom interface property (called StackPort funnily enough) and assigned this to all my stackport interfaces. Then I created an alert to fire an email whenever an interface with this custom property changes status to down. It's simple but works well.

John

deverts Jul 19, 2013 7:22 AM (in response to Goliath)John,
Excellent suggestion! And I think I'm going to change the way I'm doing it (as described above) to your method. It just seems a little cleaner to me.

Thanks D. To be honest i use a similar approach for Etherchannel links: create a custom interface property, apply to each member interface of an Etherchannel and you instantly know when one link of the channel has gone down (not always obvious if the other member links stay up no problem).

John
