Interface Error Calculation

Where are you looking?

I'm looking at: NPM and selecting an interface and then scrolling down to the In/Out Errors and Discards.

In my view, on the X Axis, I see the date and time period for which NPM is collecting errors and discards.

Is this where you are looking?

No I am looking at top 25 interface error counts.

Hi,

We take the value reported from the device and subtract it from the last value we polled.  We then keep track of the detail, hourly, and daily totals for each interface.

In your InterfaceErrors_Detail, Hourly, Daily tables you will see the information about these individual items.  The Detail entries are the specific values for that specific poll cycle (9 minutes by default).  The Hourly is the summarization from the Details table and the Daily from the Hourly, according to your settings for data retention.

Your Top XX resources are for This Hour and Today.  Those numbers are for those specified periods of time and not a sum total for all days.  So you are correct that Today's numbers are just for today. 

If yesterday you polled the error count from the device directly via SNMP and saw the total errors was 500 and now you poll that same OID and see 600, Orion is reporting the 100 difference, since only 100 of those errors happened today.

I know this is an old thread.  This link appears to have moved (broken) and this info may be helpful to me in troubleshooting an interface problem.  Can someone advise where I can find this info now?
