Hi SolarWinds. How do I take a backup of my IPMonitor config? ie: can i export everything to a html/xml file so if something happened to my monitoring server, or I wanted to move IPMonitor, I can then restore all the devices to be monitored quickly?
Hi Spagman,
to backup ipm just have to go to Configuration - Scheduled Maintenance Tasks - Recurring Internal Maintenance, activate Archive ipMonitor Configuration and/or Archive Rolled Log Files (eventually edit the File Pattern - maybe you want to write the backup to another drive ...) and check the days of the week the backup should run.
You also can make manual backups by clicking Backup Now upside in the grey bar (where you also can find Cancel/Back and Popup XML) ...
If then your server crashes (and you still have the backups you can setup ipMonitor on a new machine (park the license in the support portal before) and with the ipm9restore.exe in the install folder you can restore your last backup ... done in about 5 - 10 minutes if you have everything needed (setup.exe, backup file and so on)
Spagman and co,
Keep in mind that if you backup your ipMonitor installation using the Internal Maintenance's Backup feature, you are only backing up your configurations. If you wish to also backup your ipMonitor installation's historical statistics, I also recommend backing up the following directories:
Basically, you want to follow steps 1-3 and 6-10 of the following Knowledge base article:
