IPAM Import

Hi all,

Im due to install IPAM with a Solarwinds partner (it was free so why not) in the next couple of weeks but wondered if anyone could provide an import 'template' so i can do pre-install work... I read the admin guide and it specifys the fields but no indication of file format etc...

Hope someone could post one.

CSV, TXT and XLS formats are supported file type for the import.

Thanks. Does the file have to reference all the fields? and do they need to be in a specific order?

If you are importing from an Excel file, the first worksheet will be used. You can then select which columns to ignore.

I wanted to add that all rows in your spreadsheet that have a valid IPv4 Address will be imported.
An IPv4 Column is required to continue with the import. Ensure that one spreadsheet column maps to a database column.
This import Wizard will try to use the first non-blank row to figure out what database value it should be.
If your spreadsheet does not contain a header row, make an educated guess. The next page will show you a preview before any changes will be made.
You can use this wizard to utilize your spreadsheet software to make mass changes. Import only the rows you change on subsequent passes.

Is there an example somewhere of an "ideal" excel spreadsheet format/layout to use? If I could see what SW/IPAM is "looking" for, I could then adjust, remake or customize our current spreadsheet(s) and tabs to prepare them for import. This would be huge for me. TIA, -H

There are three required fields: 1) IP Address, 2) Status, 3) Type.

IP Address

Values: IPv4 Addresses

Status

Values: "Reserved", "Available", "Used" "Transient".

Note: When status is available, no other values (other than IP Address & Type) will allowed to be set.

Type

Values: "Static", "Static - User Managed", "Dynamic"

Note: If we are adding values for IPs that IPAM cannot communicate with, set the Type to "Static - User Managed". The scanner will not update this row, only users / import.
