I am a one man monitoring shop for a large enterprise. trying to keep Orion running smoothly and getting good info is a full time job. I also use other tools to look at storage and end to end applications. Several new cisco devices have change the way they are reporting information. Our new FC9509 and 9124Es are using SMIS instead of SNMP. VMWARE is going away from SNMP with the adoption of ESX 4I. HP is heading toward WBEM to be thier standard choice for hardware monitoring. What is Solar Winds doing to keep up with these trends and when will the NetPerfmon Service become multi-threaded so I can leverage the large horse power boxes I can get my hands on.
We are working on XML-based monitoring which is where Cisco, VMware, and standards in general are moving. As for multi-threading for the standard SNMP poller, it's on the roadmap, but I would expect it next year.
