Good morning,
I am looking for a way to reduce the number of alerts that are created for my customer base where servers are rebooted to a nightly/weekly schedule. I want to be able to suppress all alerts, for recurring maintenance windows on specific nodes (servers, routers, switches etc.
I have read the following thread from early 2008, and it mentioned that something would not work until 9.1, but even the mentioned feature if not close enough to what is required.
There are 2 obvious ways to make this work.
1. when you click the unmanage button against the NODE, it would provide you with a simple applet that allowed you to add recurring maintenance windows (i.e. daily, weekly,. monthly with days of week and times)
2. allow a suppression to be added to an alert where you could specify time of alert as an alerting parameter.
e.g.
"field ALERT-TIME is greater-than field MAINT-WINDOW-START"
"field ALERT-TIME is less-than field MAINT-WINDOW-END"
"NodeName is equal to EXCHANGE1B"
where the MAINT-WINDOW-START and END fields are custom properties. The date formatting would need to be confirmed, but this might work. however, option 1 would be best. if you take a look at how the silverback product does it or BMC performance manager express, they both have good, but different approaches.
As Orion gets better and better at doing servers, this is an absolute requirement. if it does it already and I do not know how, then brilliant, and i shall run away screaming DONUTS!!!! get me a DONUT....
any advice would be great!
Cheers
Dan...
