what is the best practice for monitoring vm's? i am talking about 1. host esx servers, 2. individual vm's on the hosts (at the vm level, not the virtual o/s level. those monitors operate as usual). is there any plugin or interface for enterprise vmware at this point? am i stuck with snmp? if there is no inherent monitor/control over esx or vm's, do you see this happening down the road? eta?
