Hung servers posting up when down.

The issue,  From time to time we have servers go down in our environment. When the node goes down hard and it is unreachable by ICMP we have standard alerts for those situations. The real issue is when an OS gets hung. The NIC is reachable by ICMP even though the OS is locked. I have been looking into a solutions using SNMP to poll the server for the system name, if the system is locked no host name should come back. After testing this it looks that Solarwinds stops if it can not connect to the Server, no alerts get triggered.
