Node showing Overall Hardware Status Undefined

We have this exact senario.

Nodes show with a grey square

Node is Up.

Overall Hardware Status (Node) 'Overall Hardware Status' has state: Could Not Poll.

We found this article as the fix...all of our nodes pass said test with no issues.

Success Center

I have tried force refresh of resources from the list resources menu

I have tried Edit node and testing SMTP

I have tried to uncheck the health status inside list resources and rechecking it.

Not sure why this happens, and not all of our nodes have it.

Every switch in each class is running the same firmware, some are working, some are not.

Any thoughts?

  • First off - what kind of node are we talking about?

I suppose you meant SNMP, so its probably a network device..

Are all OIDs used for HWH present on your device?

Depending on the manufacturer, all OIDs should be present

You may want to run SNMPWalk against the affected device to see

  • Janene,

    Yes sorry SNMP.

All switches affected seem to be Aruba 2930F units. Yet its not all of them in my fleet only some of them. They are all on the same firmware. WC.16.05.0007, ROM WC.16.01.0005

    SYSOBJECTID: 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.3.7.11.181.24

I ran SNMP walk and have the output file, but I do not know what I am looking at. I left all of the defaults and just entered the IP address community\password.

There is for sure switch information in there. I can find the above ID when I search.

Its just odd, some of mine are working fine, others not. Im tempted to reboot one of them today emoticons_happy.png

    Regards,
    Wally

  • I was able to reboot one of these switches today as well, same result.

  • can you post a Screenshot of one that is working? on one that is working is it actually showing you valid stats.

    Please review the below articles

    Monitor hardware health

    Success Center

I'm guessing that what's happening is that it sees one or more of these OID's listed and attempting to poll those values but for Aruba they don't really mean hardware health

  • Let me do more digging, walking and model checking. I will post again in a few hours.

  • Here is my list of working and not working as well as some screenshots.

    WORKING    WC.16.05.0007, ROM WC.16.01.0005   JL256A

I was thinking of flashing them to the latest firmware however it seems that the working one and non working ones are the same.
I am going to use SNMP walk to compare the JL255A working with a JL255A Not working...perhaps there is an actual difference in hardware.

  • I would pay particular attention in the article with the OID's around the HP ones. but doing a comparison of the walks between the two will probably shed a ton more light to this.

  • We got Hardware Health details working for Aruba switches running WC 16.x while testing NPM 12.5 RC2.

  • Can I ask which specific models of switch on WC 16.x you got working please?

I have 2930M stack (slighly unusual R0M67A) on WC.16.08.0001 and NPM 2019.4 and just get :

Overall Hardware Status (Node) 'Overall Hardware Status' has state: Unknown.

    Thanks very much.

  • We have 2930F's and 2540's.
