Alerting on bgp state

Sorry for being such a newbie when it comes to this, I've had about a week of looking at SolarWinds and it's all a blur.

I have this box (Tabular Universal Device Poller) which gives me all my bgp neighbor IPs and their current state.  See image: i33.tinypic.com/2d94bp3.jpg

I would like to setup alerting so it will email  me whenever any of those goes 'Idle'

Is this something SolarWinds can do?

  • BTW getting mails as an alert is so 2002 we need a visual representation of the BGP state of any node that is not returning a BGP state of 6 (established) Because the nodes with problems window will only show a little flashing icon if the physical interface is down that's a serious limitation, it should be able to notify if the BGP session has gone down and thereby effectively meaning that the interface is down. We need spomething more immediate in terms of alerting on BGP sessions status!

  • I'm doing it using BGP traps on my router.  That is about as instant as you can get.
