Privileges required by SAM to monitor Linux

We ar every new to SAM and are about to install it for the first time. The documentation indicates that in order to run discovery we need to add credentials implying logins are required on the monitored hosts. What I have been  unable to find despite several trawls thorugh Thwack! is the level of privilege required by these logins.

Our problem is that the servers are managed by a third party and i need to create logins which won't compromise the support of the servers. Is the minimumlevel of access and privilege for monitored Linux hosts documented anywhere?

Thanks

Steve D

  • Node discovery normally uses net-snmp for linux systems, so just set that up per the man page.  On the SAM side it is common to need ssh access but the level of permissions required depends 100% on the commands you want to run in your scripts.

Alternatively you can use the linux agent, which will create its own local account in the machine to do everything you would want.
