    Serial Numbe/Chassis ID query

I am looking for a way to query the serial number for all the devices that I have solar winds monitoring. 99% of the devices are Cisco.

          dpoore,
The bad news is... the serial number stored in the MIBs on Cisco devices does not match the serial number on the back of the device.

The good news... you can alter the Cisco config to change the serial number in the MIBs to match the one on the back of the device once you know the serial number on the back of the device.

The serial number MIB is :

          MIB      OLD-CISCO-CHASSIS-MIB
          Name      chassisId

          iso.org.dod.internet.private.enterprises.cisco.temporary.chassis.chassisId

          OID      1.3.6.1.4.1.9.3.6.3
          Type      DisplayString
          Access      read-write
          Status      deprecated

Unique ID string. Defaults to chassis serial
number if available , otherwise empty. Can
also be set with 'snmp-server chassis-id'.

Would one need to create a custom field in ORION?  If so, how would you have this field appear on the nodes detail screen? How could you get this field to auto-populate via the ORION discovery cycle?
