Does the File Server Monitor Tool in SAM work for file shares or NAS storage?

We're looking to monitor file count, size, and changes, but other solutions we've reviewed only work on nodes with agents installed. Would SAM handle this, or would we need the NAS Performance Monitoring portion of SRM? That seems more big picture rather than granular at a file/folder level.
