Patch Manager Third Party Download Mechanic?

Hi all,

Just picked up administration of Patch Manager that was setup  by former colleague.  Just to figure out the patch download mechanic.  My main issue right now is downloading third patch patches directly from Patch Manager.  I heard from Solarwinds rep that Adobe and Sun products can't be downloaded directly from PM but others such as 7-zip, Google, Notepad++ can as long as PM server can reach the 2 sites below?

https://www.solarwinds.com

https://3pupcontent.solarwinds.com

However, as I tried to download, I notice the URL download links says otherwise.  For 7-zip, it shows a download URL of d.7-zip.org.  For notepadd++, it shows notepad-plus-plus.org.  This indicates that PM needs to connect to each individual vendors' sites to download the patches.  Simply allowing access to the 2 solarwinds.com domains are insufficient.  Is this assessment correct?

  • Hello Bullwinkle,

You are correct. The catalogs themselves come from the two URLs that you mentioned, but each software package in the catalog is listed with either a Direct Download URL (which will reach out to the vendor's site) or require upload (such as with Adobe, Java, Apple, etc).

You would either need to allow connection to those Direct Download URLs or you could download them directly using the URL provided and then upload the content to the package that way.
