Solarwinds DB Recommedation for HA solution

Hi all,

We are going to implement Solarwind HA to application failover scenario. We have current Databases in Mirroring at Production and DR site.

When HA will be applied to Application servers, please suggest what would be the recommended setup for SQL servers.

So that , when production site is totally down with Application and Database server, all solarwinds traffic should shift to DR site application and database.

what I would suggest is to use AlwaysOn Availability Groups in SQL. This works better than database mirroring for the SolarWinds database, it uses a listener (DNS name, i.e. allows different subnets) that is the name that you should use when you run the config wizard in SolarWinds.
You can also use database mirroring, but this would mean that you have to modify the connection string in each polling engine in order to allow the failover to the secondary database server when there is a problem.

Hi sayalirevalkar I totally agree with Raul - AlwaysOn AG is the best way to go for this, I am currently working on a project that is moving from standard SQL Clustering to AlwaysOn AG and deploying both Multi Subnet and Same Subnet HA Pools and it is working very nicely.

We have had 2 instances when this request was discussed... for 1 of our customer we have gone with the SQL Always on and it works the way Raul mentioned above.
For other customer, our consulting team is suggesting VMware HA solution so this doesnt involve anything at Solarwinds level and everything is taken care at VMware level provided the IP address of Solarwinds and DB server remains the same....And this solution was proposed as there were some cost related issues which had to be taken care of..

just to know sayalirevalkar -- did you manage to go ahead with DB mirroring? If yes, were there any faults or issues found?
