    Basic monitoring of IIS and Tomcat, which Metrics?

      Newbie question;
      I want to monitor IIS and Tomcat on a couple of Servers.
      IIS is on a Webserver in the DMZ, it gets low traffic levels ~300 visits per day.

      Apache-Tomcat is on a middleware box, part of the same application as above.

      I understand that I need Application monitoring and that there are default templates for IIS and Tomcat in Solarwinds,

      however these appear to monitor *every metric* and use a lot of Licenses..?

      I'm thinking that the best way forward is to create a custom template to do basic monitoring (e.g. is the Service up, responding, basic resource usage)

      for both Tomcat and IIS.
      Can anyone advise me on what metrics to measure in the Template to get the most bang for my buck,

      i.e. to achieve basic monitoring of the Service, using the minimal number of Licenses.

      TIA

      Steve
