PerfStack: Same Data, Different Shaped Graphs

An IT manager came to me with a question I don't know the answer to regarding graphs in PerfStack. Here is a graph of CPU Utilization. Notice that it is very spikey, and lots of zero values, between each spike. This visually misrepresents the data. There are no zero-values in the dat (except at the end of January or early February.

If we look at just the end of November, early December, and focus on this areas, we can see it look like there is a spike every one day. It's not that wat, the graph just have one data set per day.

So, I select the portion of the graph above, and zoom-in to 11/19 to 12/5, we see this:

These are the same data points, but it does not look spikey, all the zero values are not there. This is how it should look, even if condensed when displayed over 3 months. So, why does the data get shown as individual spikes on 3-month view, but part of a cohesive line when viewed closer up?

Any insights you have would be appreciated.
