I agree with Superfly99. I have stopped my planned upgrade until this settles down. IPAM is too highly used to chance it. But I REALLY want NPM 12.2 and the new SAM and NCM updates…. This will get fixed, so wait if you can.

You could leave IPAM at 4.5 and upgrade NPM, SAM and NCM, that's what we were running for a while.

At least in my experience you can choose which Orion components to install with the new Orion all in one installer.

What you can't choose is to defer hot fixes - it will automatically update installed components up to the latest available hot fix level if you continue with the installation.

You can choose what to fresh install, you're absolutely right. But upgrade is a different matter, the installer will upgrade what you have on the box to maintain compatibility with the Orion platform.

So, Serena I have decided based on advise in this thread to upgrade to IPAM 4.5. But will the new installer allow me to upgrade all other apps (NPM, NTA, UDT. SAM, VNQM) to their newest versions AND stop at IPAM 4.5? Or, will I have to upgrade each app individually?

I am planning to do this tonight if I can. Thanks for your help.

By default, the online installers will put you at the bleeding edge for every Orion module in your estate. To use a specific version, you'll need to use the offline installer for the version you want to use. That said, use these with care, else you end up in version mismatch limbo

There seems to be something wonky going on with the installer and our teams are aware and investigating the issue. HF2 "seems" to be applied but the files not updated. We're still investigating this.....

Thanks, I've cancelled them as suggested. Will see what happens. So far my ipam scan job status still looks the same as before.

For those still having issues Hot Fix 3 is now available. I was told by devs that this should solve stuck DNS Zone scans and empty DNS Zone records.

                        Hi ding and serena,

I see that IPAM HF 3 is in the portal. Will this address the issues that we have had with the installer and HF 2? Do we need to uninstall HF 1 or 2 first?

The release notes link redirects to the Hotfixes webpage but it hasn't been updated yet.

Problem with DNS Zones scanning was fixed in HF3 but we have workaround for it. Needs to re-add DNS Server using WMI credentials.

ding and serena, perhaps the Hotfix changelog should be uploaded prior to the availability of the Hotfix?

It should resolve your installer issues. It is unnecessary to uninstall HF1 or 2. The installer will upgrade you to HF3 directly.

                              *UPDATE*

HF3 will require you to uninstall HF1 or 2 in certain scenarios. Apologies for the confusion. Future hotfixes should upgrade you directly without requiring you to uninstall previous hotfixes.

Oh this isn't a software or installer bug. This is because our upload to our servers was timing out. It's an infrastructure thing that our IT dept resolved for us.   It should be resolved  by the time people check  on Monday or Tuesday.

Might I suggest that you don't release the updated online installers until the offline installers are also ready? This out of sync problem between the online and offline installers is really quite a PITA.

I installed the latest HotFix first thing this morning.

Bad news: It's still running over two hundred scan jobs at once, so some are taking over an hour to complete (some now still running after 2 hours)

Last Discovery date isn't updating, and I added some more zones this morning, all of which have no last discovery date at all

Some neighbor scanning is still failing with "Cannot get ARP table from device x.x.x.x. Error: Timeout [31040]"

I'm now additionally getting multiple copies of the following error: "The scanning of 'x.x.x.x / 24' started at 'unknown' has failed with error: 'Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.'."

I have 20Gb of memory, and over 48% memory free at the moment.

Zone transfers don't appear in the queue, and no zones have been transferred today

I've removed and re-added my DNS servers to see if that helps, still nothing

Basically, I think things are now actually worse after applying the HotFix.

EDIT: Actually one thing appears to be working better, it's stopping telling me about overlapping subnets caused by Failover, so that's one good thing

                                              So, 24 hours later...

I now have over 110 have scan jobs that have been running over 10 hours without completing.

Last Discovery isn't updating, and the ones I added yesterday still have no last discovery date.

Still getting neighbour scanning issues with timeouts on some zones.

No DNS zones have transferred at all, and they all now display with a black cross.

I have a new error: "The scanning of 'x.x.x.x / 24' started at 'unknown' has failed with error: 'Polling job finished with 'Failed' state.'."

I'm going to clear out the queue and start again, see how it goes this time.

Thanks for keeping us posted on this issue. I am still sitting on the sidelines waiting for the hotfixes to cool down. I have a multi-module, multipoller installation and fear that I will fall into the same pain that you are experiencing. Especially with the new installer, which I love otherwise.

                                                  mesverrum

I recently worked in an environment with a pretty massive IPAM deployment.  When we first went to start discovering all the subnets we had a similar issue with what were basically hundreds of jobs kicking off at the same time and never completing.  I dinked around with a lot of things trying to get it to work and ultimately had success with setting the engine for all the subnets to a number that did not correspond to one of our actual polling engines then restarting the services so we basically had a clean slate to start with and no polling jobs running.  Then I wrote a SQL script with a timed delay that would go through and change 10 subnets at a time from the fake engineid to a real poller, wait a few minutes, add 10 more to the next poller, wait a few, add 10 to the next, and so on and so on and ultimately it would loop back around to the first poller after about 15 minutes and assign it a few more subnets.  It took over a day for that script to get all of them running and assigned to at that staggered schedule, but once we got it going things ran stable without any hiccups for the rest of the 3 weeks I worked with that client.  That kind of scheme may or may not be helpful for your scenario but just wanted to relay it out there since it worked for us to get things back in motion.

Well, after 6 days running I'm not seeing any Out of Memory or Failed state errors, so that's good.

Average scan duration is just under 3 hours.

However, virtually every subnet is still failing a neighbor scan with either:

"Neighbor scanning for subnet 'x.y.z.0 / 24' failed with error: Cannot get ARP table from device x.y.z.1. Error: Timeout [31040]"

                                                    or

"Neighbor scanning for subnet 'a.b.c.0 / 24' failed with error: Cannot get SNMP data from device a.b.c.1"

I still have no DNS zones transferring, they are all showing green but nothing is coming across.

                                                    Does anyone have 4.6 working?

Has anyone seen this behavior? When I add a new DHCP server, a duplicate entry shows up. When I try to select either entry, is always selects that same one. And all the same scopes show up under both entries. I just upgraded last week, so I figured all the latest hotfixes would have been applied.

IPAM is working for me since applying HF3. However, I have left my case open with Solarwinds as I have a minor problem where DNS Stub zones are not being scanned. This is not impacting on the operation of IPAM and all other scans seem to be running correctly.

                                                        My configuration is something like
