3.Which SolarWinds product are you writing this review for?

      SAM

4.What problem were you trying to solve when you purchased?

We had a customer site that was always failing to launch for a user generated account that would logon to the site, write some text and then log out.  It was always failing 'page cannot be displayed' message.

After some investigation of the network connectivity (example is the connection failing, is the network allowing connectivity when we need it, is anything stopping it such a rules/ACL, can we do a simple telnet session to the device), the site (Is the link to the site unreliable, (as this was running on a box on the customers site and we managed their AD.  So the account would have to log on to their workstation at their head office.)

, the account, ie settings, firewall config.

It came down to the customers site and the way it sometimes deals with particular port numbers (they have a very difficult network setup).   Through a combination of monitoring the site, monitoring the account (if it ever locked out due to bad passwords) and through netflow to monitor network connectivity.

5.Did you consider options other than SolarWinds? Who?

Typically we used a number of limited methods, from AD auditing/event logs to log files on the networking devices to engineers visiting site.

6.How are you using the product and what benefits have you seen?

We are using the product for managing applications (AD, DFS, DCHP, SQP and windows/Linux services via custom scripts and other numerous windows related applications) and  availability of websites
