Want to stop automatic reboot after windows updates installation in Patch Manager

Question

We have latest version of Patch manager and have many windows servers added in Patch manager for patching including Windows Server 2008/R2, 2012/R2.

We are using Patch Manager since last one year but now we are facing issue with automatic reboot of clients at anytime.

We do not want to reboot any client server automatically after patching from Patch Manager. We found option to schedule reboot after patching but no option to stop reboot.

We want to reboot manually in maintenance time after server owner approval.

Kindly assist on this issue.

These factors are not explicitly a Patch manager issue, you can play with the settings that microsoft makes available to you but PM doesn't itself directly control things like reboot behaviors associated with the windows update agent. This thread discusses the problems you are having.

Are you using WSUS or SCCM?

With WSUS all you can do is tell your updates to download but not install and then at the approved time you can use scripts to kick off the update installations, as discussed here.

If you have SCCM there is a feature called Maintenance Windows that allow you to have more control over the scheduling of these things.
