Configure the device names in DNS, then they should appear in syslog viewer.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, DNS is an option.
However we have devices which do not have a entry in our DNS but still show the server name instead of the IP. (And no, there are no entries in the hosts file)
So we were wondering, is there a setting or another way beside DNS to have the server name in the syslog column HOSTNAME.

The standalone syslog viewer (fat client) allows you to modify the columns which are displayed. In my case the column node.name showed the correct name instead of column hostname.
In case you work with hostnames (not only for display), for example sql xp monitors or snmp traps, you need to add the device in your DNS to get a human readable vlaue in HOSTNAME_UNICODE.
