Add more space to root drive

Is there a specific method of adding more disk space to partitions?  I am almost out of space on the root drive.  My colleague added the space; I rebooted alert central, but I do not see any changes.  Also, what is the root password?  The admin account is limited and I can't even delete old log files.  Thanks.

For Alert Central, the root account password is randomly generated. Even Solarwinds doesn't have it. What we had to do was boot to single user and reset the root account using the passwd command. After that, reboot back to normal and you should be able to logon using the root account and the password you just changed it to. From there it's just like any other linux environment...
