Invalid username or password - HP 6120 XG

    greenpaddyirishman

      Hi  there,

I am running Cat Tools 3.3.17 and trying to backup all my device configs to one server.

I am having an issue with 2 HP switches - I receive a

      Failed to connect to 172.x.x.x
Reason: (30016) Invalid username or password reported by server, or bad
private key.. Giving up after 3 connection attempts.

I am not too familiar with setting the device information - password, manager password etc. I have it for Direct connect via SSH2

      Any help would be grateful!

      G

          Please see this link:

          Device login issues

If this does not help, use the CatTools File menu to select the "Enable capture mode" option.  This will create a capture file in the Cattools3\debug folder.  This will show you all communication between CatTools and your device.  Please sanitize the log and post the contents  After your troubleshooting is done, don't forget to disable capture mode.

Thanks for he quick reply...I checked the "Device Login Issues' page you suggested, we do have a banner but its all enclosed in """...there are no semi colons or :::.

Here is the debug from one of the HP switches:

In the newer versions, the have bee an additional device type (Other) added to CatTools.  I would recommend upgrading to a newer version.

I upgraded to the latest version and modified the device info...same result. Now I'm getting a "Reason:Please set your password for selected protocol.. Giving up after 3 connection
                attempts"
