General HP Switch Setup Help

Good afternoon,

I just grabbed the latest version of Cattools (3.11) and I'm trying to setup a few devices but I'm having some trouble.

The first device is a HP4204v1 (J8770A) which states it failed to determine hostname - no CR or LF

The second is HP A5120-48G-POE

I step through both device connections through putty and tr to mirror the prompts as best I can through the variations but no success on either one.

Any help for a newbie is appreciated.

Thanks,

  • Jon,

You cab enable capture mode to see communication between CatTools and your device:

    a. Use the CatTools File menu to select the "Enable capture mode" option.

    b. Run the activity you are having trouble with. This should create a debug file in the \CatTools3\Debug folder.

    c. Remember to deselect the "enable capture mode" option again.

  • The issue is System View: return to User View with Ctrl+Z.  Please see this link:

    https://thwack.solarwinds.com/docs/DOC-187351

Instead of "CR" try "CTRL-Z"  without the quotes.

  • And... welcome to the community of thwack!

  • Can not get any help from SolarWinds so I'm going to consider this dead and not proceed with the purchase of Cattools.

  • Jon,

Since this appears to be an urgent matter, I would recommend contacting your sales person, so they can put you in touch with a sales engineer.

  • This is the response I was given after reaching out to SolarWinds:

    Hi,

Unfortunately we don't have pre-sales engineers available for CatTools the way we do for our more expensive Network Configuration Manager.

You could check out the Network Configuration Manager here: www.solarwinds.com/ncm

Or if you want to try to diagnose CatTools...
