Notify Solar Winds of Application Exception

I'm quite new to Solar Winds, so if this is basic with readily available answers I apologize.

I have a scheduled task that executes periodically on a Windows 2008 R2 machine.  This task sends data to a 3rd party web service and retrieves data from that same web service.  Occasionally, the 3rd party web service fails to provide the correct response which causes the executable in my task to throw an exception and most often stop.  Since it's a scheduled task this behavior, is not out of the ordinary so there's no alerting that happens.

When this happens I would like to send a message to Solar Winds that the process has encountered an exception.  Does SolarWinds expose any functionality, web service endpoints or otherwise, for notifying it of a problem?

My thinking is the scheduled task catches the exception, so it already knows of a problem.  What better way to begin the alert process than at that source.  I'd probably want SW to begin counting those notifications and then escalate if more than 3 or 5 are encountered within a specific time period.

Thanks for the help.
